LIAM STEWART SCORED THE CHIEFS LONE GOALFriday, Oct 12, 2012
The Spokane Chiefs found out why J.C. Lipon is the reigning WHL player of the week first hand Friday night, as the Kamloops Blazers forward scored a natural hat trick in the first 8:30 of the game leading Kamloops to a 5-1 win over the Chiefs Friday night in Kamloops, B.C. Spokane lost for just the second time in 7 games, and saw their 3 game winning streak snapped.
Lipon scored at 2:51, 4:37 and 8:30 of the first period as Kamloops took a 3-0 lead after one. Spokane would outshoot the Blazers 19-4 in the second period and score the only goal of the frame when Liam Stewart scored his 3rd of the season from Dylan Walchuk and Reid Gow at 18:01 to bring the Chiefs within 3-1 after two. Spokane failed to score on two ensuing power play chances and the Blazers capitalized, scoring 2 goals in a 2:29 span of the third period to cap a 5-1 victory.
Spokane outshot Kamloops 37-23, but the Blazers special teams went 2-6 on the power play, while holding the Chiefs power play scoreless at 0-4. Mitch Holmberg's streak of 6 straight games with a goal, the longest in the WHL, was snapped, as was Brenden Kichton's 5 game assist streak. Spokane returns home to host Vancouver in the Giants only visit to Spokane this season on Saturday at 7:05pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA beginning with the pre-game show at 6:30pm
