Chiefs Prevail In OT, 3-2 Over Tri-City

KENNEWICK, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs never trailed on Friday night in Kennewick, eventually putting away the Tri-City Americans 3-2 in overtime on a Kailer Yamamoto goal. The win pushed the Chiefs to 3-3-0-0 for the preseason with Saturday’s 2 p.m. rematch against the Americans as the only game left in the exhibition slate

Second-year forward Hayden Ostir opened the scoring for the Chiefs, putting Spokane up 1-0 at the 7:54 mark of the first period. Czech forward Pavel Kousal and veteran defenseman Evan Fiala earned assists on the play.

Spokane pushed their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Calgary native Jaret Anderson-Dolan four minutes later in the first. Fiala earned his second assist of the night on the play, along with 1999-born forward Ethan McIndoe.

The Americans stormed back with goals from Morgan Geekie and Vladislav Lukin at 19:31 of the first and 15:29 of the second, respectively.

After a scoreless third period, Yamamoto potted his second goal of the preseason just 41 seconds into the extra frame to earn Spokane the victory.

Matt Berlin started for the Chiefs in goal and stopped 8 of 9 shots faced. Donovan Buskey subbed in midway through the second period and turned aside 9 of 10 sent his way. The Americans started Nicholas Sanders in goal, who went 28-for-31 in the full 60:41.

Spokane was 0-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
