Chiefs Prospects Palmer & MacNeil Shortlisted by Hockey Alberta
A pair of Spokane Chiefs prospects – G Tyler Palmer and F Owen MacNeil – have been named to the Team Alberta U16 Shortlist ahead of the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.
Palmer was the Chiefs’ 10th-round (215th overall) pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft out of Lethbridge. The 5-foot-9 netminder has previous provincial tournament experience as he appeared in three games for Team South at the 2018 Alberta Cup, posting a .931 save percentage and 2.01 goals against average. He earned a 2.40 GAA and .916 SV% in 18 games with the Lethbridge Golden Hawks Bantam AAA team last season.
MacNeil, a 5-foot-11 forward from Calgary, is one of only 20 forwards to make the shortlist. He also competed for Team South at the 2018 Alberta Cup and scored six points (3G-3A) in five games played. MacNeil, who was the Chiefs’ second-round (39th overall) pick in the 2018 bantam draft, spent the majority of the 2017-18 season with the Calgary Royals Bantam AAA club, scoring 15 goals and 32 assists for 47 points in 35 games.
The 2019 Canada Winter Games will run February 15 – March 3 in Red Deer. Hockey Alberta will cut their roster down to approximately 20 players prior to the tournament.
