SPOKANE FALLS TO REGINA IN FIRST HOME SHOOTOUT

GOW, FRAM WITH TWO ASSISTS EACH IN THE LOSS

Saturday, Nov 16, 2013

SPOKANE, Wash. – In a game filled with penalties, including 10 in the second period, the Spokane Chiefs fell 3-2 to the Regina Pats in a shootout in front of 6,226 fans at the Spokane Arena. It was the Chiefs’ first home shootout of the season.

Boston Leier scored Regina’s goal in the shootout, sneaking the puck past Spokane goalie Garret Hughson. Adam Helewka, who scored a power play goal in the second period, missed the ensuing shot to end the game in Regina’s favor. Mitch Holmberg and Keanu Yamamoto also missed shots for Spokane in the shootout.

Captain Reid Gow and Jason Fram are beginning to build themselves an identity. After the two combined for five assists in Friday night’s 5-2 victory over Prince George, both defensemen earned two more on Saturday. Gow now has 30 points on the season, all assists. He is currently 17th in the WHL’s scoring leaders, and no player higher has fewer than eight goals. Fram has 22 points this season, seven more than he compiled all of last year.

Spokane’s defense played well despite the loss, forcing Regina into a pitiful 0-for-6 power play performance. Spokane has killed 81 percent of their opponent’s power play opportunities.

Mike Aviani took advantage of his power play opportunity, scoring his 12th, league-leading power play goal in the second period.
The Spokane Chiefs will host the Vancouver Giants, Wednesday, November 20th. The game begins at 7:05 at the Spokane Arena. Tickets for all Chiefs games are available via the Chiefs Ticket Office at (509) 535-PUCK, at all TicketsWest outlets and online at www.ticketswest.com.
