James Reid's 34 saves led Spokane to the win in Portland |
The Spokane Chiefs avenged a loss to Portland the previous night with a 3-0 shutout win over Portland in the Rose City. With the win, Spokane improving to 7-6-1 on the season.
Stephan Ulmer’s power play goal 4:48 into the game gave Spokane a 1-0 lead after the first period. Ulmer’s slap shot from the point was assisted by Mitch Wahl and Blake Gal. Spokane outshot Portland 16-10 in the period.
Kyle Beach would extend the lead to 2-0 for the Chiefs after the second period with his team leading 11th goal of the season 7:27 into the second period. Beach’s 6th goal in his last 4 games was assisted by Wahl, who fed Beach in the slot from behind the net.
Tyler Johnson’s 8th goal of the year would put Spokane up 3-0 just 1:07 into the third period. Johnson’s rebound of his own shot net front was assisted by Gal and Brendan Kichton. The goal was Johnson’s 3rd in his last 3 games. James Reid had 34 saves to pick up the Chiefs first shutout of the season.
