Chiefs Win Second Straight With 5-2 Victory At Vancouver
LANGLEY, B.C. – Hudson Elynuik’s power play goal late in the second period snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted the Spokane Chiefs to a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Giants on Saturday night in Langley, B.C. The win was Spokane’s ninth-straight over the Giants dating back to the 2012-13 season.
Spokane took a 1-0 lead after the first period on Taylor Ross’ fourth goal of the season at 15:24 of the period. Dalton Hamaliuk picked up the assist. The Chiefs would extend the lead to 2-0 on Tyson Helgesen’s third of the year at 4:09 of the second period. Vancouver would come back to tie the game at 2 with back to back power play goals late in the period before Elynuik would get the eventual game-winner on a Jaret Anderson-Dolan pass with just 1:06 left in the second to lead 3-2 heading to the third. The Chiefs would build a 4-2 lead when Ondrej Najman hit Eli Zummack netfront for Zummack’s second career goal at 9:26 of the third. Spokane would then kill off a five-minute Vancouver power play later in the third to preserve the lead. Kailer Yamamoto wrapped up the win with his team leading 19th of the season at 15:21 on a Najman assist to cap the 5-2 win. Keanu Yamamoto extended his points streak to 11 games with an assist on Elynuik’s game winning tally in the second as Spokane moved within three points of fourth-place Seattle in the U.S. Division.
Spokane will continue their road trip as they face the division leading Everett Silvertips Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA starting with the pre-game show at 3:30 p.m.
