Elynuik and Growlers Claim ECHL’s Kelly Cup

The 2019 Kelly Cup Championship concluded on Tuesday with former Spokane Chiefs forward Hudson Elynuik and the Newfoundland Growlers claiming the series win, 4-2.

The Growlers — who entered the ECHL as an expansion team this season as a Toronto Maple Leafs affiliate — gain the distinction of being the first expansion team to win the league title since the Greensboro Monarchs did so in 1990. Elynuik was a steady contributor to the team’s title run and was highly involved in the Finals in particular, where he checked in with eight points (2G-6A) through six games. He posted nine goals and 19 assists for 28 points in 33 regular season games with the Growlers.

Elynuik wrapped up his junior career in 2018, finishing tied for the 39th-most games played by a Spokane Chief, appearing in 245 from 2013-18 after being acquired via trade during his rookie WHL season. He also ranks 19th in Chiefs history in assists (137) and 23rd in points scored (220). He was signed by Toronto in July of 2018.

Ticket packages for the 2019-20 season are on sale now and start as low as $80! Learn more at or at the Chiefs’ Ticket Office at Spokane Arena during regular business office hours, in-person or over the phone at 509-535-PUCK.
