Thornton and Smith Headed to BC Hockey U16 Provincial Camp

BC Hockey announced their 2019 provincial camp rosters, including Chiefs prospects Ben Thornton and Cam Smith. The camp will take place July 29-Aug. 3 in Shawnigan Lake, B.C.

Thornton, selected by the Chiefs with the 15th overall pick of the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, scored 13 goals and 32 assists in 30 games with Yale Academy’s Bantam Prep team last season. The 6-foot-2 forward added four points (1G-3A) in five playoff games.

Smith, identified by scouts as “a big, strong winger who likes to shoot the puck” was chosen by the Chiefs in the 11th round (235th overall) of the bantam draft out of Victoria, B.C. He played the 2018-19 season with the Victoria Racquet Club Kings Bantam T1.

Thornton and Smith are two of 60 shortlisted players invited to the camp, which will help BC Hockey decide their roster for the 2019 WHL Cup. Thornton will compete with Team Grey while Smith will play for Team Red.
