Hats Off for the Homeless

The Spokane Chiefs are encouraging fans to bring in new or gently used winter hats, gloves and other winter clothing for women and children to receive either a $5 ticket to the Chiefs game on Jan. 4 or a “$5 off” voucher to the Team Store. All items will be donated to Catholic Charities’ St. Margaret’s Homeless Shelter. The Hats Off for the Homeless clothing drive will take place as the Chiefs host the Kamloops Blazers on Princess and Superhero Night presented by Rock 94 ½ and 700 ESPN.

Fans can bring items to the Chiefs’ ticket office at Spokane Arena during regular business office hours prior to the game or to the game on Jan. 4 to receive the offer. Chiefs winter hats will also be on sale for those who would like to buy and donate at the door.

Warm hats, gloves and other winter clothing items are always in high demand at the shelter as many residents arrive with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.  Youth-sized hats and gloves are of special need.

St Margaret’s is Catholic Charities’ primary homeless shelter for women, children and families and has been operating for over 60 years in Spokane. The shelter has 18 apartment-style units for families experiencing homelessness. Families also receive counseling and case management services, as well as life skills classes while living at the shelter so that they can become stabilized, receive assistance in securing employment and eventually move into one of Catholic Charities’ 1400+ affordable housing units located throughout the community. The shelter houses and serves over 500 different families every year.
