Spokane, Wash. — A big second period proved costly for the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday night at Spokane Arena as they lost to the Kamloops Blazers, 6-0.
After a scoreless first period, the Blazers struck just over eight minutes into the second as Nick McCarry potted his 7th of the season. The Blazers scored twice more in the next 2:17, with Dylan Sydor sneaking one by before Daylan Kuefler finished a beautiful backhand feed from Dallas Stars prospect Logan Stankoven to make it 3-0.
Kuefler punched in his second of the night at 18:16 to give Kamloops a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.
Caedan Bankier (8:06; shorthanded) and Stankoven padded the Blazer lead in the third to reach the final score.
The Chiefs were outshot 32-25 in the game, including a 13-7 margin in the decisive second period. Beaupit made 17 saves on 22 shots faced, including a few spectacular saves on breakaway chances. Manny Panghli came on in relief for the Chiefs and went 9-for-10 in 11:54. Dylan Ernst earned the shutout for Kamloops.
Defenseman Will McIsaac (2006) made his WHL debut for the Chiefs. The Vancouver, B.C. native was selected by Spokane in the second round (28th overall) of the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft and was called up as an Affiliated Player prior to the game.
