SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Chiefs closed out their weekend double-header on Saturday night with a 6-2 victory over the Regina Pats, led by rookie Reed Jacobson’s two goals.

Spokane struck first to jump out to a 1-0 lead just 2:49 into regulation as Las Vegas native Erik Atchison snapped one from the left circle inside the near post for his sixth goal of the season.

The Chiefs extended their lead to 2-0 midway through the second period as rookies Brandon Reller and Jacobson hooked up. The goal marked Jacobson’s second of the season.

The Pats responded with a power play goal later in the middle stanza, with Logan Nijhoff redirecting a point shot to beat Spokane starting goalie James Porter Jr.

The third period opened with a flurry of Chiefs goals as Adam Beckman, Graham Sward and Brad Ginnell registered markers within 73 seconds of each other to vault Spokane ahead 5-1 with just over 15 minutes left to play. The score by Beckman gives him 31 points (20 goals, 11 assists) over his current 16-game point streak. Sward’s goal was his first of the season and Ginnell’s was his first since by acquired by the Chiefs on January 8.

Jacobson tacked on a second goal at 14:08, securing his first career multi-point game, before Regina’s Zack Smith — younger brother of Chiefs captain Ty Smith — pushed it to the eventual final score of 6-2.

Bonners Ferry, Idaho native James Porter Jr. stopped 33-of-35 en route to his first win as a Spokane Chief. Former Chief Donovan Buskey started in net for the Pats, stopping 22-of-27 in 44:28 of ice time before being replaced by Danton Belluk, who was 12-of-13 in net. Spokane went 1-for-7 on the power play while Regina ended the night 1-for-6.

The Chiefs wore special military themed jerseys for the game, which were auctioned off to benefit the Washington State Fallen Heroes Project.

The Chiefs are off until Wednesday, January 22 when they take on the Everett Silvertips at Spokane Arena. It will be another TicketsWest Player Magnet Giveaway with the first 1,000 fans in attendance receiving a magnet of one of their favorite Chiefs players!
