Everett, Wash. — The Spokane Chiefs snapped a three-game winning streak with a 4-1 loss at Everett on Sunday afternoon. Luke Toporowski scored the Chiefs’ lone goal.
Everett got on the scoreboard first as Montreal Canadiens prospect Cole Fonstad capitalized on a 3-on-2 opportunity to score a shorthanded goal six minutes into regulation.
The Chiefs tied it up at 1:06 of the second as Toporowski continued his hot streak with a goal from the left circle. The slapshot score pushed the 18-year-old winger’s point streak to four games (2G-6A) dating back to Jan. 18 versus Regina.
Fonstad regained the Everett lead midway through the second period with his second goal of the night, with assist to rookie centerman Jacob Wright.
The Silvertips took control barely two minutes later when defenseman Jake Christiansen ripped a perfect shot over goalie Lukas Parik’s left shoulder to make it 3-1.
Ty Kolle added his 16th of the season midway through the third as Everett locked down the Chiefs in the final frame.
The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Chiefs and also marks the end of a league-best 18-game point streak for Minnesota Wild prospect Adam Beckman.
Spokane outshot the Silvertips 35-31 on the night. Parik made 27 saves while Everett’s Dustin Wolf made 34. Both teams finished 0-for-2 on the power play.
Spokane will continue with two more road games – at Kamloops on Jan. 29 and at Kelowna on Jan. 31 – before returning home on Saturday, February 1 to face the Kelowna in the back end of a home-and-home at Spokane Arena.
