Chiefs Sign Hard-Nosed Forward Riley McKay

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs announced today that Riley McKay has signed a Standard Player Agreement and committed to playing in the Western Hockey League. McKay, a 1999-born forward from Swan River, Manitoba, was originally listed by the Chiefs in September 2014.

“We have been very impressed by Riley’s commitment to improvement while maintaining a dimension of toughness and grit that will be valuable in our league,” Chiefs’ General Manager Tim Speltz said. “We’re very happy to welcome Riley to our group and look forward to his contributions for our organization.”

McKay posted 12 goals, 22 assists and 151 penalty minutes in 54 games for the Swan Valley Stampeders of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League last season. He added an assist and 12 PIM in six playoff games.

The signing caps a busy week for Speltz and the Chiefs as the organization also announced the signing of prospects Eric Van Impe and Logan Foster on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.

Ticket packages for the Spokane Chiefs’ 2016-17 regular season – including Bud Light Opening Night on October 1 – are on sale now! With packages starting as low as $70, there’s a plan for any budget.
