RYAN REPRESENTING THE U.S.A. AT DEUTSCHLAND CUP

Former Chief and Spokane native Derek Ryan will represent the United States this weekend in the Deustchland Cup in Munich, Germany as one of 21 players on the select roster that is comprised of players currently participating in elite European leagues in the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland.  The Shadle Park High School graduate has 15 goals and 36 points with VSV EC in Austria, his third professional season overseas.

Ryan appeared in 216 games as a Chief from 2004-07 scoring 67 goals and 167 points.  He was named the Western Conference’s Rookie of the Year in 2004-05 after recording 14 goals and 46 points and earned the Chiefs Player of the Year honors in his 20-year-old season of 2006-07.  After his junior career was over Ryan competed with the University of Alberta where he played four seasons earning his degree.

The United States fell 4-3 in a shootout to Slovakia in Friday’s game.  They will play Switzerland on Saturday and Germany on Sunday to finish the round-robin tournament.  The tournament can be followed here.
