SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs scored twice in the first period and held on for a hard-fought 2-1 win over the visiting Everett Silvertips at the Spokane Arena on Tuesday night. Forward Kailer Yamamoto led the way for Spokane with a goal and an assist while newcomer Tanner Wishnowski racked up two assists in his first game as a Chief.

Yamamoto put the Chiefs on the board at the 9:20 mark of the first period, deflecting a Tyson Helgesen shot from the left point past Philadelphia Flyers prospect Carter Hart for the 1-0 lead. The goal was Yamamoto’s team-leading seventh of the season.

Forward Jaret Anderson-Dolan found the net for this fourth of the year seven minutes later to give the Chiefs a 2-0 lead. Yamamoto slipped a pass from the left side that was deflected up by a Silvertips defenseman. Anderson-Dolan managed to get his stick on it mid-air to chip it over Hart’s glove and light the lamp.

Everett made it interesting at the 16:01 mark of the second period with his fifth goal of the season and third against the Chiefs, assisted by Connor Dewar and Dominic Zwerger, but the Spokane defense held strong down the stretch, anchored by a strong 26-save performance from goaltender Dawson Weatherill.

Both teams were scoreless on the power play; Spokane in two chances and Everett in three. The Silvertips outshot the Chiefs, 27-23.

The Chiefs now hit the road for two weeks beginning with a Friday game at Regina. The puck will drop at 6 p.m. PDT with the Mike Boyle’s pregame radio show starting at 5:30 p.m. on 1510 KGA NW Sports Talk.

Spokane next plays at home on Friday, November 4 as they host the Red Deer Rebels. It will be Washington’s Lottery Night at Spokane Arena.
